OK, some parents my not like this suggestion but I say give it a try.  The key here is to make certain the video games are EDUCATIONAL.  The education based video games can make learning a ton of FUN.

There are video games that help to teach math and some others that help with spelling and learning skills.

This activity suggestion came about since the weather as been so terrible outside lately.  Normally, I would prefer to get outside (even in the Winter) but when the temps are zero, exposing my little ones to such brutally cold temps is not going to happen.

So we only have 1 TV in the house and my wife was watching her favorite show Downton Abbey.  First this is not a show for kids and since everyone was stuck inside, we decided to shut the Shows off and plugin the PlayStation.

I braved the cold and went to Best Buy and got a few great educational games.  We then spent about 4 hours of FUN and learning that was just great.

I have some friends who said that these games can be awesome for everyone in the family so I figured we should give it a try.

I can honestly say that I think you should give it a try as well.  There are more options than you can even imagine.

Now as you can tell I have been very careful to use the word “education” whenever I talk about family video game night.  There are so many “bad” video games out there that you need to avoid. They can have violence, adult language, nudity, etc etc.  So make certain it is an education based game and is suited for the age of the youngest member of the family.  That way it will be a pleasurable experience for the entire family.
